My question is how do kids learn structure and discipline? Not every aspect of life requires these but when you get older you need the ability to determine when you need to go to sleep to be prepared for this or that in the morning because jobs don't let you roll in whenever you want and have lunch whenever you want. I love the idea of letting kids be a little freer, but this just sounds like a way to have a lot of kids who aren't up to par with everyone else. Melanie O'Connor, I agree with you. My kid's schools are small rural and the kids love it. However, in homeschooling, there are also some problems. It's hard to categorize so widely. We need to think about individual outcomes. A lot of my students were treated horribly by public schools. But my kids' schools were awesome. So I don't know in think both sides are true in some respects and not accurate in others.
