The mom has made this boy a spouse. Not physically but confiding in him, whispering in his ear about how he is her best friend, that he takes such good care of her. There is an imbalance in this relationship. This boy is being robbed of a childhood. A young carer is someone from the age of 5 upwards. That's because schools are expected to spot signs of children struggling and involve outside services. There are very rarely outside services to help and many are charity run that provides breaks for children if they can as there is little to no in-home help. This is what a community services cut will do as when the term carer was coined for these families the cuts to adult carers hit them as well. Her back pain is likely caused by her obesity and will get better if she loses weight. Her mental illness can be managed with therapy and medications. She has a responsibility to her children to fully participate in their care to the very best of her ability. It certainly does not appear that she is doing that. Her son is a wonderful person but he has a right to a childhood and should not be so burdened by undertaking her responsibilities. I suffer from depression, I have Hypothyroidism and I had a car accident 10 years ago that left me with chronic pain. I have a crack in my spine and a bulging disc that is pinching my nerve. Nobody cared for my children but me. Its my job.
