Jeanine Rumbo Bowman, Rebecca Blackmon McWilliams: Here are the requirements to be a "sub" in Florida, nowhere near the requirements to be a teacher. Is always good to a bit of research before you hit the post: "Education Requirements. All substitute teachers must have at least a high school diploma (or equivalent). You laugh I laugh you cry I cry you take my Toronto Maple Leafs I kill you shirt If you have no classroom teaching experience, the school district must provide you with training on classroom management skills and instructional strategies prior to allowing you to work in the classroom. You must also be trained in the school district’s school safety policies and procedures, ethics, professional responsibilities, and liability laws." Vicki Sizemore, I don't know where you get your info but I worked 6 yrs as a sub, carry not only a Broadfield Social Studies license but also individual certifications for History (my other major), geography, political science, economics, sociology, & psychology. If my state hadn't ended the cert, I'd also have one for anthropology. I am fully licensed and trained as are most subs but in the idiocy of educational bureaucracy, the same test scores that are used to demonstrate content knowledge are not allowed to be used for hiring criteria because they were labeled unfair by teacher's unions. Students are taught all their success depends upon these NCLB test scores yet their teacher's scores can be used to determine if they have mastery in order to get the best teachers because coaches have higher priority than content knowledge when hiring.
